By thinking outside the box and with our vision of ‘Sold at Nowhere Else But Here’ = mr.kanso and ‘Wherever You Are, We Are There’ = Food Truck, new business ‘mr.kanso truck’ will start in 2020, the year of the Tokyo Olympics. A unique perspective of mr.kanso will be conveyed with food trucks to customers from all over the world.
What is mr. kanso truck?
mr. kanso is ‘a shop where you can enjoy delicious canned food and drinks’, and with mr.kanso truck, customers can now enjoy the same experience at any location. Offering more than 50 kinds of canned food from around the world including rare and original cans at the food truck. Canned food can be served as is, be cooked right in front of the customer or can be offered as takeaway. Along with canned foods, coffee, soft drinks and alcoholic beverages including craft beers are offered at reasonable prices.

What is canned food?
We can all thank Napoleon Bonaparte or more specifically, a food-preservation contest he launched, for canned food. In 1804, inspired by wine in corked bottles, a confectioner and chef in Paris named Nicolas Appert invented way to preserve by bottling food in glass jars. In 1810, a British merchant called Peter Durand patented a tin can in England by improving canning methods. In Japan the first trial canned food was oil sardines made in Nagasaki in 1871. After furhter trial and error, the first canned food ‘Canned Salmon’ was created in Hokkaido on October 10th 1877. (October 10th is now ‘Canned Food Day’ to commemorate this special day)
Canned food became popular because of their reasonable pricing and convenience not to mention their long shelf life.
For some, canned food may sound a little old fashioned, however, canned food carries much more potential than many people think.
The mission of canned food
From ‘preserved food’ to ‘ingredients’. Canned food has many roles to play including easy, quick meals and as preserved food, but canned food can be more than this. This new perspective of utilizing canned food as ingredients can create endless possibilities.
In modern society, food waste is a huge social issue in the world. Not only a social cost, but it contributes to growing environmental problems like climate change with the production of food requiring vast quantities of water, fertilizer and land. Most food waste is thrown away in landfills, where it decomposes and emits methane, a potent greenhouse gas. With its long expiration date, canned food can contribute to this huge global issue.
We, mr. kanso truck, aim to provide ‘heartfelt services’ with our philosophy – ‘utilizing canned food to decrease food waste’ and ‘challenge with new food ingredients (canned food)’. In order to do so, we will keep creating new canned goods so our customers tummies and hearts can be filled!
